The Gorboduc Project is a satellite series of events, resources and discussions around Harriet Archer and Paul Frazer’s edition of Norton and Sackville’s play for the Manchester Revels Plays Series. In addition to our editorial work, we want to promote dialogue about the themes of territory, division and devolution which the play’s texts and contexts interrogate, and generate a network of scholarship which rereads Gorboduc and other Tudor drama with an eye to its regional, local significances. A product of our collaboration between Newcastle and Northumbria Universities in the North East of England during a period marked by the Scottish independence and European referendum debates, we wanted to find out what would happen when approached the politics of early modern performance from this decentered perspective.
